We are developing a new service and have agreed a company name. We need an identity and we don’t have much of a budget! What instructions do we give to a couple of designers that have approached us?
The more information you give, the easier it is for the designer to create something that meets your needs.
The key things are
Service – Explain what the services are, how they work. Give examples where possible.
Clients – Describe potential clients; who they are, where they are based, size of companies you want to win.
Main competitors – It is always useful to give information about competitors and examples of their logos where possible too. This lets the designer know the field they are operating in. You can also comment on logos you like and dislike.
This is also about your aims – what you hope to gain from the designer. Perhaps you need a logo that works on
– Business Cards
– Compliment slips
– A sign outside the office door
– On other promotional items?
Give them an idea of your budget as well and be specific about what you need for this. For example you may wish to include
– The design of the logo
– Setting up of the letterhead, comp slips and 4 business cards and put onto CD
– The logo on CD
Also discuss the timescale and process. What is your realistic time frame? Allow extra time for consideration [on your part] and potential amendments from the designer too.
